The Prompt
After a visit to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, I was inspired by the way the paintings and their placards were displayed. I wanted to make a theme reminiscent of that experience.
My Process
I knew from the start that I wanted the focus of Museum to be images. I wanted to design a theme that felt classy and refined, like a Sunday morning visit to a museum.
To this end, I focused a lot on creating appropriate whitespace to allow the images shine on their own, alongside elegant typography. I drew typographic inspiration from the designs and promotional materials of various museums, such as the MFA and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
I also made sure that archive and attachment pages looked just as great as regular pages and posts, to further the idea that each set of tags or categories was a collection or gallery, and each attachment page was like standing in front of a well-lit painting, hung against a light backdrop.
As with Flounder, I paired up with Kelly Dwan to develop and release the theme.
The Result
Museum is a free theme crafted to showcase all of your best photographs, drawings, or illustrations. Featuring elegant, museum-inspired typography and ample room for your images, Museum pays special attention to category and media attachment pages to help your collections shine.
